GEN I: Chapter 2

Today's the day. Time for Alan to head out for a new job. He goes straight to the military base to apply. Since he really wants to be an astronaut this is where he needs to be. When he did the interview, he was informed the only position available was at the bottom of the ladder. They told him it was his if he wanted it. Alan decided to take that job, knowing that with his dedication to his dream, he would step up that ladder quickly.

He walked out of the base with his head held high, and a new job to brag about! Alan was so pumped about his new job, and so excited, he had to do something to work of the extra energy burning inside of him. He remembered that little workout facility right by his home, and headed there.

'This seems to be a pretty nice place,' thought Alan 'I think I will enjoy living in Twinbrook, so many good things have happened already'. Alan proceeded down into the gym to blow off excess energy.

He worked out for about 4 hours, until he was sweaty and starting to stink that manly stench, then decided to go home for a shower. When he walked out of the gym Alan decided that he did not get all of the energy out, and chose to jog home. Before he set of to jog though, he had to flex those muscles and maybe catch a pretty woman's eye.

When Alan got home, he took a quick shower and started to prepare his dinner. Browsing through the refrigerator, he decided the only thing that sounded good was a nice fresh salad. He also did not really feel like cooking anyway, so a salad makes that easier as well. As he sat down to eat his dinner, he thought about the day and what a great one it was. He could not wait to do it again tomorrow.

For the rest of the evening, until he was ready for bed, Alan decided to catch up on some mechanics. He sat in is favorite chair and began to read. He learned a lot that night, maybe he will upgrade some of his electronics soon.

That night, all he dreamt of was his working out and his new job. It was a very good nights sleep. The first he had had in a long time.

The next morning as Alan was making his bed, he started to think that maybe that hard and heavy workout was not such a great idea. He was pretty sore. Alan knew he would never be able to work properly being this sore, and stiff. So, after his morning shower and breakfast, he decided to do a little stretching. It would loosen him up, and help him to think better. He might even make this his morning routine, and do it everyday before work. Well today is his first day on the job, and he does not want to be late. As soon as the carpool pulled up he walked out as ready as ever.

You would not believe it, but Alan actually got promoted! His first day on the job, and he earned himself a promotion. The boss was so impressed with his work ethic, personality and athleticism, he caught Alan at the door on the way out and told him he was promoted. Alan is so thrilled he has to go celebrate. He actually heard a few of his co-workers talking about a place called "The Red Rendezvous", and it seems that some of them go after work a few times a week.

Since he was new, and did not know where else to go, Alan went to 'The Red Rendezvous'. Right away he saw his favorite game when he was a kid, and figured he would give it a shot. He had not played this game in forever, but he had not lost his touch. While he was playing though, he kept thinking 'I should spend this time working out, not fooling around, but what kind of life would one lead if they never had any fun?'

Although it started off just Alan in the whole building, pretty soon a few more people were showing up. A friendly gentleman came up and asked to join the Foosball game. "Of course," Alan said "new players are always welcome." They played together for a couple hours, talking about whatever came to mind, but mostly cooking. Alan looked up at some people walking in and noticed that one of the ladies looked oddly familiar. He thought for a moment, then realized he recognized her from work. Since he did not have the time at the job to introduce himself, Alan figured he could do that now.

She introduced herself to him as 'Milly', she seem pretty pleased to meet a fellow co-worker outside of work. Although, basically all they did was talk about work he enjoyed speaking to her. Milly seemed like a pretty nice lady. She told him of her dreams in the military career, they were actually the same as Alans. They both want to be astronauts. "Unfortunately," said Milly "our boss frowns upon women in that branch, so it is not likely I will ever reach my goal. But here's hoping"

Time to head out, the place was getting pretty busy and the air started getting heavy. Small places just are not meant to have so many people in there at once.

When Alan got home, he recycled his newspaper and checked the mail, he was actually happy to see his first bill waiting for him. It was only about 98 bucks, so he filled out his check and sent it right back. He was feeling a little more at home in Twinbrook now, and it had only been 3 days. The town was just so welcoming, and it seemed that luck was in his favor.

Alan got a work assignment today from his job. They asked him to read this book 'Getting out of the Pit ', so that evening he read well into the night before going to sleep. He had another peaceful night, and this time he would not wake up with sore, and with a stiff neck.
