GEN I: Chapter 5

The next morning Alan was thinking that he should really wash his sheets. Then he realized he did not have a washer or dryer yet. He had to work today so he picked up his cell phone and called the construction company. He told them to come out and build a small room right next to his bedroom. Alan made himself some pancakes and headed out to work.

He got there just as the sun was coming up. Alan spent most of his time at work doing business as usual, also took an hour break. He got all of his work accomplished for the day, and the late part of the shift was chatting with co-workers. At the end of the day he was promoted to Squad Leader. He normally would go out and celebrate a little bit, but today he needed to get home and check out his new laundry room.

When Alan arrived home, he was happy to see that the workers had completed the job. He got right to work installing his new washer. Although he was happy to have the washer, and could now wash his sheets, he would wait for later to buy a dryer (money is tight). Right now he wanted to go out to the park.

Alan arrived at the park and sat on a bench just to read a book. After a little while a lady came up and introduced herself, but all she wanted to know was if Alan had a pen. He did not, so she left. He turned to sit back down to read some more, and noticed that someone had taken his seat. Then Sofia came up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. They started talking for a while, she said since she met him she had been working out more. Alan found his attention wavering. He kept thinking to himself "Why does she always talk about herself? She hardly lets anyone get a word in edgewise!" He gently interrupted her and told her he was going to play chess. "I don't like chess" Sofia scoffed as she walked away.

Although he had not intention of really playing chess, he walked that way. When he did get to the area, he ran into his Foosball friend Jack. Jack greeted him and challenged him to a match. Alan was originally planning on leaving, but he sat and played anyway. Pretty soon they had some other guys start watching the game. Alan won that round, and said goodbye to Jack. He needed to get home for his workout.

He arrived at home, paid his bills and went in to stretch before doing some cardio. He had not gotten 5 minutes into it when there was a knock at the door.

As soon as Alan opened the door, he regretted it. There stood Sofia. He did not want to be rude, so he invited her in. The moment she started talking, Alan was looking for a reason to ask her to leave. He stood there for ten minutes, just pretending to listen to her talk. After what felt like forever, his cell phone rang. A brief thought came into his mind "Who in the world is calling me at 10 o'clock?" That thought was quickly replaced by "thank you, whoever you are!" He pulled out his phone and checked the caller ID. He looked at Sofia and said "If you'll excuse me, this is my boss I have to take it." She smiled "okay no problem, I'll go. See you around town" and she left.

Alan talked to his boss for a few minutes, and thanked him for his impeccable timing. After they hung up Alan went back to working out for about an hour and went to bed. The next morning he got up, showered, and ate breakfast and went to work as usual. While he was at work, his boss actually requested that he go see 'Argyle Sinclair' at the bookstore on a Saturday.

After work (as he did multiple times a week) Alan went to the Red Rendezvous for some fun. As soon as he walked in the door he saw Sofia flirting with some guy at the entrance. "Well that's good, maybe she will leave me alone now!" Alan thought to himself. Unfortunately he was wrong. He had only been playing Foosball for a few short minutes when he noticed that Sofia had said a quick goodbye to her beaux and then she decided to join him. He decided to make this game short and then leave.

He was not ready to go home yet, so he took a quick jog around the corner and went to the gym. He realized he had not gotten his workout the night before and figured he would be better off doing it at the gym as opposed to home. Pretty soon though he was to tired to continue and left for home. He had a quick dinner and went to bed.

That Saturday Alan went to the bookstore and watched Argyle Sinclair at the bookstore. He had not really expected that to last most of the day but it did. Pretty much until late afternoon. Afterwards, he went home. He did not really feel like hanging out today. He also feared that if he did, he would run into Sofia again. She seemed to be anywhere he was going. He paid his bills before going inside, and decided that the postman was having a bad day.

The rest of the evening consisted of tinkering around the house. Alan upgraded the tv, to get better reception. Then the dishwasher, sink and stove to be to be unbreakable. Even though they had not broken on him yet, better to be prepared!
***Writers note: Alans life is running pretty slow right now, but do not fret... it will pick up soon ;-)

  3. I find it funny how Sofia seems to be everywhere he goes. Who knows? Perhaps the unthinkable will happen and he'll fall for her. Haha. Like they always say, "opposites attract." And they're about as opposite as you can get!
