GEN I: Chapter 15

To Jenni, it seemed like only yesterday she was carrying around her little boy as an infant. Now it was time for learning. Hayden is picking up on walking pretty quickly. He has also learned to eat real food, no longer bottles, he is a big boy now and big boys eat food.
That day, in the middle of teaching Hayden to keep his balance, Jenni felt something...

She had been pregnant twice before and knew what that feeling was. How could this be? She and Alan were being so careful. They had decided, since they were getting pretty close to being to old to have children, they would only have one. Well she would never put her baby up for adoption, so they would be keeping the newborn. She smile to herself. Jenni loved being pregnant, it made her feel great. Just then she noticed Hayden tugging at her pants, he wanted attention.

Jenni picked him up and tickled him, she also tossed him in the air. Hayden loves that and he always giggles. After a few minutes of play Jenni took Hayden to the potty. Potty training is all about timing, you have to have good timing.

That afternoon, after a stressful day at work, Alan had to teach a class about mechanics at the local school. He went there directly from work even though he wanted to go home.
After what seemed like hours of babbling on and on about handiness and the tools people use, he finished speaking. He was so happy to get home, he didn't even wait for a taxi. They were only a block or two away, so he jogged home.
When he got in, he ran straight upstairs to change clothes. After changing into comfortable clothes he came back down and greeted Jenni with a hug and a kiss, and his son with a kiss on his little head.

Jenni broke the news as quickly as she could, hardly taking a breath "Alan we are expecting a baby, yes we were being careful but fate wants us to have another child I guess. I will never give up a baby to adoption so we will be keeping him or her" she blurted out "frankly, even though I am getting up in age, I am excited to have a little infant in the house again." Jenni paused to take a breath and look at her husband. He was smiling.
"Oh this is so wonderful! I hope we have a little girl!" Alan said, "I'm going to go read that maternity book again." Alan grabbed the book off the shelf and went up to relax on the bed to read.

The next day, while Alan was working. Jenni got Hayden up and fed him breakfast, did a quick potty training session and set him down to play. She went out and tended the garden and picked some lettuce for their lunch salad today. The rest of the afternoon was all about learning. Jenni studied a book on cooking, and Hayden played.
When Alan got home, the first thing he did was talked to Jenni's expanding belly. After a few minutes of baby talk he went on to tinkering with the stove.

That night, in the middle of the night, Jenni was awoken by Hayden. He was feeling quite lonely and needed some attention. She tickled him and tossed him, and chatted with him. Hayden loved getting attention from mom. He smiled, giggled, and talked back when she talked to him. He was glad that daddy taught him how to talk.
Suddenly Jenni felt the need to go to the restroom. She put Hayden downstairs, so he could play with his toys. While she was in the bathroom, she felt another familiar feeling.

She was in labor. Even though she was in pain, she was happy. She couldn't wait to meet her new baby. Right away she called a taxi and left to get to the hospital. She was always afraid of a birth happening at home, so had all her babies in the hospital. She called Alan while they were on the way, she did tell him that he could take his time, get ready and meet here there, she had just started labor and it would be a little while.
Alan did not hear the 'take your time' part, and he didn't. He was up and out of the bed to take a very fast shower and get dressed. He was grateful that Hayden was up already and just grabbed him and his toy to meet her there.

Of course Jenni arrived first in her taxi. Alan and Hayden arrived an hour and a half later.

Just three short hours of labor and little Damien Wayne Fuller was born. Damien is a really quiet baby so far, even though he smiles when people play with him, he seems to enjoy being alone more.
The Fuller family has a new addition! The now one larger family took a taxi home so they could all ride together.

They stood in the living room for a while, admiring the baby and playing. He was such a cute little one, although they could not really tell what color his eyes were going to be yet, and of course he had no hair so no telling whose hair he had inherited.

Before Jenni could even change out of her maternity clothes, it was time to celebrate Hayden's child hood birthday. Alan pulled the cake out of the fridge that they had gotten for him and set it on the table.
Jenni brought Hayden to his cake. 'Cake' was actually Hayden's first spoken word, and he was all to happy to say it now too.

***Authors note : Alan is not actually eating the cake, he is just sitting there talking to Hayden. Weird man so far has not eaten any cake, at any birthday. Hmm Maybe because he is athletic and on a constant diet??
Hayden grew to be a cute little boy, but hair didn't seem to grow as fast as him. It was still pretty short. Alan sat with Hayden at the table and congratulated him on his wonderful day. He was happy to see Hayden growing up to be such a great little man.
After Hayden finished his cake, Alan showed him his new big guy gifts. Now that he was a child he needed bigger and better things for his life.

First came the bedroom set. Hayden was glad to put the crib behind him, but hoped there was more. He was very happy to find him and his dad walking out back to his new jungle gym! "This is the best gift EVER dad! Thanks soooo much" Hayden squealed. Right away he ran off to play on it. Alan laughed at the sight of his son so happy. Just then Jenni came up and hugged him from behind. "Good thing we got that one huh?" she asked "I don't think he would have preferred a baseball." Alan agreed and they both went inside to play with Damien.

Damien was a new joy in the family. A surprise, but a joy. He was so delightful. Alan did not regret having him, although they would be celebrating their elder birthday soon. With the new addition, Alan was not expecting the family to get any bigger anyway, and two children is perfect.

They were happy.
