GEN I: Chapter 12

Bright and early Alan was going to work. Even though he did not want to, with his wife so close to delivery, they could not afford him to miss a day. There was a new house at stake, somewhere for his baby to sleep. Most of the morning for Alan was spent working hard, but he had a short 30 minute break as well.

After Jenni's morning routine was done, she looked at the bear 'Possum' and thought of Alan. He was really a sweet guy. She smiled at the fact that he had kept his bear from childhood and wondered if he had always meant to pass it down. This morning Jenni was craving spaghetti.

So that is what she had for breakfast. She was happy they had some leftover from a few nights ago, so she could fulfil that craving. The body always asks for what it needs, especially when with child.

Knowing her due time was near, Jenni was going to take it easy today. She sat down to watch some television. A few hours into flipping stations, Jenni felt like she peed her pants. Her water had broken, and her first contraction made its presence know pretty quickly. She picked up the phone, before she wouldn't be able to, and called Alan. "Meet me at the hospital, the baby is on the way!" without waiting for a reply, she hung up the phone and hailed a taxi.

Alan felt his cellphone vibrate during a meeting and excused himself to answer. He knew it must be important, Jenni (nor anyone else) ever calls him when he is at work. He panicked for a split second when she said the baby was on the way, but the feeling quickly passed. He told Bobby he was leaving for the afternoon, if he could, he would be back. Alan doubted he would be back to work later, but wanted his boss to know he would think about it.

Alan rushed to meet his laboring wife at the hospital, traffic caused him to take more time than he wanted, but he finally got there. Jenni saw him running up to the front doors and smiled a greeting that was quickly replaced by a grimace of pain as another contraction came. They were getting real close together now, it would be anytime. Alan told her that he would wait outside, he was not that much into blood, and birthing. She nodded and went in to deliver the new baby.

Alan and Jenni had a bouncing baby boy. They named him Hayden James. They had given him his fathers middle name, and Jenni's grandfathers first name. Jenni loved the baby and his name.

The three of them went back to the house in a taxi so they could all ride together in the backseat. Alan just can't keep his eyes of that miniature human. It was a miracle. How could anything that small steal his heart so much? While standing there watching his wife cuddle his newborn son, he remembered the previous nights event and realized he hadn't told Jenni.

Jenni told Alan that Hayden seemed pretty tired, as newborns should be after birth. She asked if Alan would set up the crib here in the living room.

Alan thought that was a good idea, he would just move the chair to the other side of the room and set the crib up by the wall. After putting it all together, while there were some cuss words and scuffed up knuckles from the construction, Alan looked at it for a minute proud to have a son to put into it.

Jenni put her new little man into his bed, and went into the bedroom to change her clothes. As soon as she walked in Alan came up behind her and tapped her shoulder. He began to retell the story of the robbery and the fight with the cop, also the fail. He then recounted his attempt at subduing the burglar, and his success. He seemed to be boasting, and sounded so proud of himself.
"So that's why the dishwasher wasn't there this morning!" Jenni said, "I'm so surprised I slept through that, but I always have been a heavy sleeper."

Jenni proceeded to change her clothes while Alan talked.

He started to talk about moving, and that he was happy to. "If the neighborhood is becoming dangerous, than I don't want you to live here, much less raise our son in such a place" he said. Jenni agreed with him, then decided to go add up the family funds and see if they had enough to get the new house.

Alan went to pick up Hayden, he had woken from a short nap and was a little fussy. The new father tried playing with the baby, but when that didn't work, he tried the bottle. Milk seemed to satisfy Hayden's hunger just fine. While Alan was feeding him, he looked at Hayden's eyes. They seemed to be light brown like his, but from what he understands, infants eyes can change color daily.

Alan heard his wife come up behind him. "Be careful, and hold his head while you carry him!" she warned. He turned to talk to her and congratulate her on the wonderful delivery. He absolutely adores both of them.

Just then Jenni got a call for an opportunity to give a seminar at the school, some kind of charisma class. She decided to take it and go. The amount of money they offered put the right at the amount they needed to purchase the new home. She made sure Alan would be okay to handle the baby on his own. "There is nothing this little guy could do that I can't handle" Alan said proudly.

Shortly after Jenni left, Alan change and made himself a snack. When he finished washing the dishes, of course, the sink broke. He spent only an hour fixing it. He was a very handy man, and had studied a lot in the plumbing field.

After fixing the sink, Alan was a little geared up and chose to do some exercise to burn some extra energy. The whole time he was working out, he was giving his son tips. "You'll grow up to be fit as can be if you listen to me" he said to Hayden. Hayden coo'ed in his crib.

Just then Jenni walked in the house and went straight to Hayden and picked him up. She talked to him about how much he missed him, and with a smile over her shoulder also said "Mamma got us enough money to go out and get a new place to live. So you won't have to sleep in the living room very long my love."

Alan heard her, as he was meant to, and smiled at the thought of buying a house with Jenni. He couldn't wait to make her happy. He planned on moving out tomorrow.
