Gen I: Chapter 9 Part I

**Writers note: This post has music, so turn it up a little and make sure ya listen ;-)**

Late in the morning the two new lovebirds rose and kissed each other good morning. Alan was off today, but Jenny still had to work. She goes to work early afternoon though, so they had the whole morning to spend together. They each took showers sat down for a great pancake breakfast. During breakfast Jenni suggested they go out today and go swimming. It was one of her favorite things to do to relax. Alan said "That sounds like a wonderful idea, we'll go out when we have finished eating."

Alan and Jenni did just that, left when they finished eating and changed into their swimming gear. They each brought the change of clothes that they would need when they were done swimming.
Jenni drove. Alan loved her car, maybe he could get one of his own one day soon.
As soon as they got there, each just dived in in turn. At first they just dunked themselves, and swam. Then they held a contest between the two of them. Alan won the first time, but he let Jenni win the second. Just as Jenni was about to say she had to go, Alan playfully splashed water at her. They laughed and had a water fight for a few minutes.
Much to the disappointment of Alan, Jenni climbed out of the pool and got a towel. She had to go to work "I'll call you when I get off, and get home." she told Alan. Then she left.

Alan got out dried off and got dressed. As he was leaving he thought of the ways he could pass the time until she called. He went home, and had a snack. Swimming always made him hungry. He had some bread and jam then decided to watch TV.

Not two minutes into his show, the television went out. As he stood up to go fix it, he thought to himself "It always seems like I am tinkering with or fixing this TV! Maybe I should get a new one?" Instead of getting a new one, after he fixed it, he tinkered with it long enough to make it unbreakable. "There, that should fix that." He said aloud.
His phone rang. When Alan answered he was happy to hear that Jenni was home from work. They talked for a little while, then said goodbye and hung up the phone.
Alan sat down on his couch for a minute. He felt incomplete though, like he did not talk to her long enough to satisfy the social need. So he got up and walked over to her house.
Jenni was surprised to see Alan standing there when she answered a knock at the door. A thought crossed her mind that he was coming over to break up with her. She sincerely hoped that was not true, she really loved him. Jenni invited Alan inside.

They greeted properly with an affectionate hug. Alan pulled out of the hug but held on to Jenni's hands tightly. He thought silently to himself "Well if your not ready now you never will be." Alan pulled her into the middle of the living room and said "I have something to tell you..."
"Here it comes," Jenni thought, and almost started crying. She decided to hold her composure, if he was going to break up with her, she was not going to let him see how much it would hurt.

"Wait wait, if I'm going to do this, I better do it right..." Alan said
Jenni felt a little confused when he got down on his knee.
"I know we have not even talked about this yet, and it is pretty sudden but..."
"I do not think I could spend the rest of my life not having married you, Jenni. I love you and want to share the remainder of my days with you. Please, will you be my wife?"

At that moment Jenni was too shocked and happy to say anything, she was speechless.
Alan started to put the ring on her finger, even before she had agreed. She still had not said anything. At first she gazed at the ring, then looked at Alan. Jenni knew right then the answer was yes, there was nothing more she wanted. She had already been engaged once, but did not have the same feeling about that one as she did with Alan. Her first engagement was broken off, but she knew this one would be followed through, just by the look he had. Suddenly it hit her, that she had not told him that she says yes.

She flung her arms in the air and wrapped them tight around her new fiance', still with no words. She tried, but failed to say anything. But tears leaked from her eyes as she hugged him. Alan felt the love in her hug, and the wetness on his shoulder from her eyes.
He took that as a yes, she did not have to say anything.

Right away Alan started to talk about the wedding, when did she want it? In spring? Maybe fall, or sunrise... sunset? Still hardly able to talk, she could think of only one thing to say. "How about tomorrow? After work?" Alan smiled, even though he knew she wanted to marry him, he felt a little relieved to hear some form of confirmation. They kissed and said goodbye, there were preparations to be made, and it was bad luck to see the new bride the night before the wedding.
That night they both slept, and dreamt of weddings and vows. Of rings and cake.
In the morning Alan got dressed and went to work. He spent most of the day chatting with his friends, and his boss who had gotten back from his trip the prior night. He hardly did any work, he couldn't. Having finally let go of the tension that he was holding while he had held that ring, Alan felt a little lighter. He had finally asked, and she had said yes. Today was their wedding day. Then he realized that he had to go shopping. Bobby, Alan's boss, let Alan leave work early that day, so he could go buy himself a formal outfit.

Alan went to the local clothing outlet, and tried on a number of things. He finally settled on one formal outfit, in addition to the one he had before. The old one, to him, was not suitable to marry Jenni in though. He also picked up another daily set of clothes while he was there as well. Alan was feeling pretty good. The rest of the afternoon for Alan consisted of phone calls, he knew it was really short notice, but he wanted to surprise Jenni with a few things.
Jenni spent the morning getting her formal wear cleaned from the last time she wore it. The night her and Alan went out to eat she had gotten a little spaghetti sauce on it, and had to get the stain out. She would have gone and bought something new, an actual wedding dress. But she could not afford something like that. She only had a job as a clerk at the day spa, and it did not pay much.

After work, and getting few new outfits, Alan went home and took a shower. He made the phone calls he needed to set up a small get together and put up a few decorations. He could not afford much, but hoped she liked what he picked out.
After what felt like forever, Alan walked out his front door to get to his and Jenni's wedding party.
To be continued...

  1. Now I'm curious--will this marriage be a good idea, or...bad one?

  2. Great chapter, I loved how Jenni was speechless and didn't say anything. :)
