GEN II: Chapter 13

Hayden still takes after his father in the manner of working out every morning. Isabel comes to wake the babies, it is a special day for them. While Isabel is waking and preparing the triplets, Jenni makes a few phone calls and invites the rest of the family over to celebrate three birthdays. Within an hour everyone started arriving.

Kenya, Damien, and Crystal all came to the party. Chase was invited and arrived, but only to leave five minutes after getting there. No one knows for sure why he left, but everyone thought it must be linked to Crystal being here. Kenya had recently celebrated her birthday, although she did not invite anyone for a party. She was showing her age though, she had all grey hair. Crystal and Damien had not changed much since Hayden saw them last. They still seemed the same.

Jenni set up the party in the back yard. There was plenty of room out there, and lots of fresh air.

James, Cedric and Charlie each blew out their candles with the help of their grandmother. They were two years old now, time seemed to have flown by. Now it was time for learning the basic skills of life.

They boys grew up so handsome. Each of them had their grandmothers hair, she had been this color when she was young. As it turned grey she dyed it a different color to look younger. Even though James seemed bald, there was still baby fuzz there and everyone could tell the color was the same as the other two boys.

After the triplets were done blowing out candles and growing to toddler-hood, everyone had a piece of cake. There was a lot of chat and game playing before the party ended. The boys were getting tired, it was time for a nap. Damien, Kenya and Crystal helped put them to bed before leaving.

Jenni was there when the kids woke. Hayden and Isabel work nights, so they both leave in the evenings and are not there most times when the toddlers get up. Jenni loved being there for the boys, and that she was still around to see her house filled with crawling babies again. Jenni was also very thankful that Hayden and Isabel had not moved away, and chose to stay with her to raise their family.

The time for learning has come for the triplets. Over the next few years they had to tackle learning to walk, talk, and of course use the potty. Any other skills they might pick up in the meantime would help when they get older.

Hayden offers lessons in speech, the toddlers take it okay, but would prefer to be playing rather than learning. James had apparently inherited his mothers knack for being a little on the evil side. He loves to take toys from his brothers and laugh at them when they cry. Cedric grew to be pretty smart, and actually loves to learn. The family is pretty sure he is a genius and will grow to become very intelligent. Charlie always smiles and giggles at the slightest provocation, he tends to impress easily.

Each one of the toddlers over time had grown a head full of hair. Hayden kept it trimmed, almost in the same hairstyle but a slight difference so they could tell the boys apart. Even for triplets, they looked remarkably alike, it was very hard to distinguish them from each other.

Potty training was coming along great, Cedric had already learned to do it, James and Charlie were not to far behind. Hayden and Isabel would be glad to have this behind them. It can be very time consuming to have to take a toddler to the potty ever hour, or so.

Cleaning up after the boys was also time consuming. Isabel, Hayden and Jenni all shared the responsibility of picking up toys. Each did it once a day. That way the house stayed clean and no one got over worked. The triplets seemed oblivious as the adults cleaned, but as soon as all the toys were put away, all three of them would make their way to the toy box just to pull them out again.

One morning, before showering, Hayden came down and tickled his kids. He kissed them all and told them he would be back. He hadn't done much inventing since the boys were born, and he was missing it. Hayden went to the dump to go through the piles, he was looking for anything useful. He was amazed at what people just threw in the garbage, things that had a lot of potential to be something better. It was up to Hayden to save what he could and create something wonderful with it. Maybe he could make something for the boys. They would be getting older pretty soon, maybe they would enjoy something their father made.
